There is no am radio function, and Mutant does not sell any wi-fi device that does. Amazon should really not mislead by indicating that this device includes am when it clearly does not.
Aside from that, the sound quality is crystal clear, the fm radio radio seek function is so convenient to use. In my neighborhood, I can click on any of 20 stations almost instantly. The portability is great, i can go from room to room. One downside is that it tends to buffer a lot more as opposed to the Grace wi-fi that I own as well.

At home I use a WEP wireless network, so I cannot speak to WPA connectivity.
I also have a Grace Allegro 'net radio which I like very much. As with the Grace, the Mutant is associated with a great 'cloud' database. Grace uses Reciva, and Mutant uses VTuner. Once you get the Mutant, you first get it to connect to your network and then, you can go to the VTuner site, and establish a free account and begin to pick stations that are downloaded as favorites to your radio the next time you turn it on. The initial account sign up is easy except you need to look at your radio's network settings info to find the MAC address of your radio to key it into a blank on the VTuner web page--this validates the radio and you then pick your ID and password and then can proceed to search the VTUNER database for stations you want added to your Favorites on your Mutant radio. When you turn the radio off and back on, these favorites are downloaded to your radio and away you go---listening online.
The sound of the radio is that of a small hand held radio---use the earphones to feed a big powered speaker or earphones.
Use of the radio is pretty easy. It tunes FM also---flip a slide switch to select FM or your net stations.
